The addition of one of TETRA’s oxygen scavengers such as OxBan or OxBan HB can reduce corrosion dramatically by limiting the reaction of oxygen at the cathode—less oxygen, less reaction. With respect to oxygen control, although the solubility of oxygen in brines decreases as the brine concentration increases, oxygen can be entrained in brine fluids and pumped as small bubbles during recirculation and filtration procedures.

Clearly, generation of foam during these operations should be minimized and small amounts of an oxygen scavenger can be added continuously just before the fluid goes downhole.

More effective corrosion inhibition is achieved by employing a combination of one the scavengers and a corrosion inhibitor such as TETRAHib or TETRAHib Plus.
