Breaker Technology

TETRA patented breaker products are formulated to remove the polymeric binding agents and release the bridging materials either as discrete particles or degraded material.

TETRA carries an extensive range of unique breaker products that permit the degradation of filter cakes or fluid loss pills from ambient to high temperatures and in the presence of low to high density fluids.

Using our patented technology, breaker products can be formulated to remove the polymeric binding agents and release the bridging materials either as discrete particles or degraded material. The break time can be controlled by careful formulation to facilitate the removal of both the binding and bridging agents.

TETRAVis™ Breaker

A viscosity breaker, TETRAVis breaker can incorporate a time-delay when breaking an HEC pill.

TETRABreak™ L Breaker

TETRABreak L breaker is a strong oxidizing agent used to ‘break’ polymer residues within water-based drilling fluid filter cakes. This breaker will oxidize commonly used viscosifiers and starch based fluid loss additives. Although TETRABreak L breaker does not dissolve weighting agent particles, the destruction of polymers within a filter cake is normally sufficient to compromise cake integrity and allow it to be flowed back to the surface.

TETRAZyme™ S1 Breaker

TETRAZyme S1 breaker is an amylase enzyme used to break starch fluid loss polymers in water-based drilling fluid filter cakes. This breaker poses minimal corrosion risk unlike conventional acid and oxidizer-type polymers and is more tolerant to higher temperatures and pH extremes than commonly used amylase enzymes. TETRAZyme breaker is environmentally acceptable in the Gulf of Mexico and North Sea.

PayZone® TBT-LT

PayZone TBT-LT breaker is a solid low temperature oxidizer designed to chemically degrade polymers and starches in sodium, potassium and calcium chloride brines. It is a strong oxidizer, effective at low concentrations for use with most standard drill-in fluids and fluid loss pills. An external breaker that selectively degrades polymers and starches, it is effective at low temperatures. PayZone TBT-LT breaker can oxidize polymers and starches in sized calcium carbonate fluid loss pills up to approximately 140°F/60°C, to allow flow back of bridging materials through gravel pack screens.

PayZone® TBT-HT Breaker

PayZone TBT-HT breaker is a high-temperature, bromine-based filter cake breaker/oxidizer designed to chemically degrade polymers and starches. It is a strong oxidizer, effective at low concentrations for use with most standard drill-in fluids and fluid loss pills. An external breaker that selectively degrades polymers and starches, and is effective when a breaker above 160°F/70°C is required. It is effective to temperatures above 200°F/93°C. PayZone TBT-HT breaker can oxidize polymers and starches in sized calcium carbonate fluid loss pills to allow flow back of bridging materials through gravel pack screens.
