Dry Salts

TETRA uses dry salt weight material to increase the density of a single salt fluid that has been diluted or if additional hydrostatic pressure is needed to control a well.

Ammonium Chloride (NH4Cl) Salt

Used as a completion, workover, and gravel additive when the ammonium ion is preferred. Ammonium chloride is inherently acidic and is used to minimize or prevent formation damage. Ammonium chloride is shale inhibitive and compatible with most formation water.

Potassium Chloride (KCl) Salt

Used when the potassium ion is preferred. It is also an effective clay/shale stabilizer additive in water-sensitive formations.

Sodium Chloride (NaCl) Salt

Often chosen due to its wide availability and low cost, “salt” is used for increasing density, increasing shale inhibition by decreasing water activity. With a specific gravity of 2.165, NaCl is applicable up to 500°F/260°C. and can be used to effectively reduce salt dissolution when drilling halite salt sections of oil and gas wells. Another application is for reducing the potential for forming gas hydrates.

Sodium Bromide (NaBr) Salt

Pure sodium bromide brine is used when the chloride ion is not desirable and when sodium is preferred over calcium. Often used in situations where formation waters contain high levels of sulfate or carbonate that the calcium ion could cause to precipitate.

Calcium Chloride (CaCl2) Salt

Calcium chloride, one of the most economical salts used in oilfield completion and workover operations, is used as an additive to inhibit clay swelling, dispersion, and migration. Calcium chloride is also widely used as an accelerator for most classes of cement.

Calcium Bromide (CaBr2) Salt

Used as a completion, workover, gravel pack, and packer additive. It can also be used to increase density. Calcium bromide is often used when the chloride ion is not desirable. Due to its inhibitive properties, calcium bromide can reduce formation damage caused by clay swelling and dispersion.

Sodium Formate (NaCOOH) Salt

Sodium formate salt is a dry white powder and is used to blend sodium formate brine solution, sodium /potassium formate brine solution, or as an additive to increase the density of formate brine solutions.

Potassium Formate (KCOOH) Salt

Potassium formate salt is a dry white powder and is used to blend potassium formate brine solution, sodium /potassium formate brine solution, or as an additive to increase the density of formate brine solutions.
